I've commissioned other models before and it's the same deal - you get an advance copy and you can have it tailored to your liking. I didn't ask for a novel, I wanted the girls to have some flexibility to add their own flavor to it. I was also okay with it being released under BigCuties eventually - I believe that's fair since I didn't have it hyper personalized. If you want it to be for your eyes only, you're expected to pony up way more.
Be brief, but specific where it matters. Don't be afraid to make it a discussion. And ask for what you want, worst anyone could say is no. But if it's well outside their wheelhouse, you're probably not going to have it done for you.
