I thought to see on which sumo wrestlers were in which commercials and if others want to post other sumo commercials.

The first one is for morongo casino, who is the sumo wrestler in it?

Second is a pepsi ad with Bekham, on who the Sumotori that raps is (yes seriously)

Otherwise I didnt find any name for the morongo casino commercial. I think it's an actor and not a real sumo. True sumos aren't allowed to have beard for example. But its just my theory.

If you love big sumos... Do you know Dewanojo? He's huge

I posted the image of Yama because I couldn't find a screenshot of the commercial I posted here. And the rules state, I make a thread, I post an image and I just needed a Sumo wrestler in a commercial.

I may post links to other commercials. Like what about this one:

That is a good point, I do wonder if some of the Sumotori in the ads are wrestlers or are actors. I would then wonder how many Japanese men there are that are as big as a Sumo wrestler, since most of them are known for being skinny. How many would willingly gain weight to be a sumo wrestler in ads/tv/etc.
So I can refer to multiple wrestlers as Sumos?

I note how many times fans of the sport get huffy about that, and demand you use words like rikishi, sumotori, sumo wrestlers.
I guess I posted this too, because BHMs, I thought there would be multiple threads gushing over sumo wrestlers.

Just for reference "sumos" is not the correct plural, you'd have to use one of those examples you provided if you wanted it to be proper, but everyone will still understand so whatever
Understand if I use rikishi or sumotori and not sumos when referring to sumo wrestlers plural?
I guess I worried about starting arguments if I use the word sumos or sumo to refer to a sumo wrestler and thought it would lead to anger that I use the right words. Like people saying I use Rikishi/sumotori and not sumo/sumos.
Using "sumos" is not the correct plural but others will know what you mean. Using "sumo", sumo wrestler(s)", "rikishi", and "sumotori" are all correct as both singular and plural, though layman's to the sport may be unfamiliar to the last two. Similarly, the "mawashi" they wear is also both singular and plural.
If anyone gets upset over such a small mistake or are being elitist aficionados by demanding you only use the Japanese terms, don't take it to heart. Sumo's popularity used to truly be struggling, so fans shouldn't push people away who are just trying to learn
I've been working on a tale with sumo wrestlers and have been looking to get input for basic plots and ideas of sumo in the setting.

The tale is a future america where Sumo wrestling is popular and is unisex. I was figuring out what aspects of sumo to keep and what would change especially when practiced in another country. I thought to show them do the training of the sport but forgo religious rituals. I thought this would be part of the sport having male and female practitioners. I did think to show some who try to revel in their status as sumo wrestlers and having admirers. I am more spoofing being a celebrity. with them reveling in their status. I could bring this up on another thread.
back on track, anyone want to submit other Sumo commercials? I do know that Yama was in a bunch, I guess I wanted to see of others that don't have him so this thread isn't just a Yama appreciation thread.

That an ad?
I guess too for actors being Sumo wrestlers, I just wonder if they got Japanese/Asian men to willingly gain weight. I know most of them don't get super fat or value obesity. I just wonder if they agreed to gain weight to be a sumo wrestler in various commercials. Or if they were already super fat before doing the role. As well as how they got super big, I thought the lifestyles of most Asian nations make being super fat hard. Unless they changed their diets and began to get pudgier.
Like are they asian-american men who agreed to gain weight or where they already super fat and were asked to portray sumo wrestlers in a show/movie?
Also want to get an analysis on how US commercials use Sumo wrestlers versus Japanese ads with Sumo wrestlers.

Would one say, Sumo wrestlers in US ads are fat jokes with some racism. Just how goofy and weird Sumo is and of how obese men in loincloths are somehow a sport. As well as using how big and huge they are to get something across about a product in a commercial? I heard of the lack of a match and no wrestlers doing a match. Rather than have them do a sumo match, it's just use them as props for an ad. More here's how big and fat they are and how immense they are and to use that to sell a product.

How would one describe how a Japanese ad uses sumo wrestlers? Does it to use the wrestlers size to get something across about a product? To use them for surreality sake?
