I suggest TrueNAS. Organize with Stash . keep the db info on an iSCSI share and the media on an NFS share. You lose some capacity, but goingwith mirrors is the easiest way to keep your storage expandable. I personally went with three vdevs of 6x20TB RAIDZ2 myself. Use an NVMe drive for your special media device and it *feels* like solid state. I take hourly snapshots and do a twice daily local backup and a twice daily remote backup (out of state). Yes, this requires three TrueNAS machines, but you can always swap remote backup space with friends, since you can encrypt it and they will never know whqt kind of porn you are into.
