>>134687I also heard that not all Mangaka are super rich, many of them probably also grumble about art being stolen because they wish to make money and pay the rent. To us when we commit piracy, we view it as stealing from rich, greedy corporations, not artists struggling to pay the rent. Mangaka should learn that about how we view the producers/distributors of art here versus there, especially since not all art here is creator owned. While this is a good point the sad thing is so long as the internet exists, your art will be stolen. I'm sure there are a bunch of fat fetish artists who know about this site, yet they don't all grumble about their stuff being posted here. The drama at HBO Max has shown the importance of keeping work in circulation. Piracy helps ensure that the art is kept alive in some form. With the drama at Twitter, what will Nikutsuki's plan be with their art when the site is no more? Isn't sites like this good for keeping their art in circulation and exposing it to more people? I wonder if someone should distribute copies of their art on whatever sites they can. I believe that art should be in circulation so it can be exposed to more people and inspire them. Manga artists who limit the distribution and accessibility of their work just limit those who can be exposed to it. They're no better than the corporations that limit access to art they produce. Like streaming sites who don't have DVDs of their shows/movies, and only have the media available on their site.
Mangaka should also know that not everyone can read/understand Japanese. How would it look if I said that people who don't know English should learn English to read my stuff? They should now a fair amount of piracy is people translating their work because they don't know Japanese. It's especially important for minor works that lack official translations. Like if I wish to read a lesser known series that lacks an official translation, I will need scanlations to read the thing, because my other option is purchasing something written in a language I don't understand. These artists are truly behind the times and it doesn't matter how much grumbling they do, piracy is going to happen always.
