They paired her up with Lando in the time between those two Zahn storylines

The EU was made noncanon back in 1999 so George didn't have to deal with Mara being Luke's wife

J. W Rizler, the head EU writer (who passed away a couple years ago) told everybody in a podcast all of the things about why George Lucas hated Mara Jade.

It was no myth, he just used Robot Chicken to try and hide his hatred with comedy.
