Context and intent matters, autist-kun. Someone making art of another artist's character is usually done as a gift, and it tends to mean a lot seeing how high most commission prices usually are and they're giving it to you for free. But most importantly, they make it clear that it's just fanart at the end of the day.

That's a far cry from taking someone's OC, pretending like it's your own, and then try to give them away like you own it, all out of sheer spite. It's practically two steps away from being an NFT grift, it's the complete opposite of what you're trying to compare this to.

A sequence or a comic page takes multiple times the time and effort of a pin-up, but in general doesn't get a better reception in terms of engagement than a simple character illustration. A pin-up can be completed in one sitting without much of a hassle while the idea is still fresh, but committing to something for many days, sometimes weeks or months, usually just leads to feeling stuck, or burned out, and wanting to move on to something else.
It doesn't help that the audience for comics contains the most nitpicky and critical demographic of hardcore autists who will be quick to pick apart every detail and declare your work trash. Even BWS got shat on by multiple posters in these threads for his comics - if even the top 1-percenter is going to receive that kind of scrutiny, why would your average fattywank creator even bother trying?
