IIRC Bonnie and Jodie were meant to be gaining, except Bonnie wasn't gaining that much and Jodie was gaining a ton. Thing is that Bonnie basically kept inflating her weight, using angles, etc, to try to keep pace with Jodie, which then spiraled into arguements over Jodie trying to "sabotage" Bonnie's career over Bonnie just obviously lying about her weight

That might be part of it but Jodie also admitted to being bipolar and clearly had some massive mood swings which couldn't have helped. Bonnie's also a really good example of how much genetics play in this scene because I think she is (or was) a genuine feedee/gainer but kept hitting plateaus.
