>>169379I know this is an older post, so I know I risk just dumping time into an abyss by replying, but it's pertinent enough to speak into the aether and hope someone hears.
I completely understand and sympathize with your disdain for how much dog shit art gets posted on a daily basis. Hell, I started drawing in part out of my contempt for all that disgusting gruel, and I wanted to show through art that people should not just expect from and hold artists to higher standards, they should hold themselves to higher standards than cooming to putrescent copy/pastes of some other character's face posted over Violet Beauregarde.
But since that is the meta, you should temper your expectations accordingly, especially if you ever feel ballsy enough to type "blueberryinflation" into Deviant Art's search tab and set the filter to "most recent." Don't just watch, but promote art and artists worth watching, and use the autists who will never, ever improve as an effigy of what not it do so that people putting in a genuine effort to improve know what to avoid.
As for the people... look, the amount of years I've been into this shit is in the double digits, and there's one constant I've found; EVERYONE with an inflation fetish is to some degree autistic... and I'm including myself in that evaluation. But those issues lie on top of just the widespread societal rot and endemic incuriousness of your average plebeian. I've had people sanctimoniously bitch at me for frequently using all 280 allotted on Twitter as if I was writing a sequel to Atlas Shrugged. I've had normies to my face haughtily defend continuously giving money to increasingly shitty remakes, sequels, and adaptations because "i jUsT wAnT tO sEe sTuFf I rEcOgNiZe." The fact of the matter is that most people, not just people with fetishes for blueberry inflation, would rather be happy pigs stewing in their own shit than be a disappointed Socrates with high standards and self-respect.
But there are more thoughtful people out there, even within this setting. You just have to look for them, keenly. You have to be willing to put yourself out there, but also not throw your pearls before swine. You can connect with people over blueberry inflation, but if you want meaningful connections with them, your friendship has to be about more than that.
Trust me, they are out there, even if they're just lurkers...
PS: If it makes you feel any better, Faridae quit the internet entirely many years ago. I remember seeing her last journal she posted to DA before deactivating her account, when she claimed to have found Jesus, so I guess when she came down from the starry-eyed high from the lethal combination of her foid instinct to self insert with factory tour fanaticism that lead her to look at Violet and go "sHe'S LITERALLY mE, fR fR! i wAnT aLl tHaT ATTEEENTIIIOOON!" she realized: "Oh my God, I just made an entire comic sexualizing a 10-year-old child!"
At least if we're giving her the benefit of the doubt...
As for SugarRollArt... I'll save for another comment what I have to say about that antifa-LARPing fucking fagatroon...
