Most beginners work with the single layer, warping the background along with the subject. For that problem, pasting to new layers and duplicating layers is the solution. That can be accessed via the Layers menu.
The basic pattern is as follows:
>Select>Copy/Paste to New Layer>Select/Cut/Paste specific body parts to New Layers (optional)
