It's been delayed for a few years since people kept calling and telling them it's a bad idea but I think we're at a point where they just don't give a shit anymore. Almost everyone in Congress is a 60+ year old Baby Boomer that doesn't interface with the internet in the same way you and I do. The people who inform them (to my knowledge) are scared parents with horror stories or tech experts who only really represent the interests of data hungry, anticompetitive tech giants like Facebook. These people, however, aren't the only excuse for passing something like this. I believe a lot of U.S. politicians are sick of receiving pushback online for doing stupid shit and want to shut people up.
